Epsom House
Short listed 2002 NZIA Local Awards
This house was featured in the architecture and interior magazine Home and Entertaining (February-March 2001). Designed for a family of five, it is located on a flat urban site with the street and a belt of protected trees to the south.
The result is a 2 level L shaped layout that creates a sheltered courtyard to the north-west onto which the entire ground (living) floor opens to provide seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The house is conceived as a first floor timber box sitting lightly on a base of fine steel columns and plastered concrete block panels.
With a floor area of approximately 180m2, this house was built to a strict budget, but provides formal and informal living areas, four bedrooms and three bathrooms.
